Empowering ‘Young Leaders’ with SWISSE & MITS
Last year, Essential Movement Systems teamed up with SWISSE to deliver the Young Leaders Program to Year 8s at Melbourne Indigenous Transition School (MITS). This pair-up provided four students (and their PE teacher Jayden) with the exciting opportunity to join Essential Movement Systems at three primary schools running the Bluearth Active Schools Program to lead a session in the role of coach.
Warmly welcomed, the students put their lessons into practice - leading the charge and sharing traditional indigenous games they learnt in conjunction with NAIDOC Week in MITS’ first week back after Term 2 holidays. The crowd-favourite was Bangarang, a game…. With high spirits and smiles, the groups united for a memorable movement session full of fun, learning and laughter.
On top of giving the MITS students a chance to embark on a new experience and see how far they’ve come from the program’s onset, this was a special moment to share a piece of First Nations culture with schools wanting to introduce more of it into their community.
Check out the highlights, and hear from some of the MITS leaders, in the video below.
